Gert and Daisy

From my memory of other recordings heard on various nostalgia programmes over the years, Gert and Daisy can be a lot sharper in their observations, so I agree with avianenoch (on this subject, at least) that they are probably not well served by this vehicle. Incidentally, I'd love to hear more of brother Jack Warner's Garrison Theatre etc appearances. Why not have a Warner-themed three hours on 7?

Brother Jack Warner ... sounds like a gospel singer.

To be more specific, the Gert and Daisy characters, as I remember them from other recordings, were occasionally sharp-tongued gossips. This sitcom does not really reflect that side of them; they seem to have softened over time or they saved their best routines for records or live performances.

If you come across Gert and Daisy from elsewhere on one of those nostalgia programmes often broadcast on Sunday afternoons you may be pleasantly surprised.

Incidentally, is it true that when footballers were advertising hair creams, Jack Warner was offered a lot of money to front a campaign for a new kind of hair preparation but refused as they insisted he use his "little gel" catchphrase from Garrison Theatre and he didn't want to cheapen it.

Folks, you've been great. I'm here all week - tell your friends. There are still a few tickets available.
