About this blog

Welcome to this blog consisting of observations about comedy which I originally posted on the BBC 7 messageboard.

BBC 7 has since morphed into Radio 4 Extra and its messageboard is no longer online, so consider this a salvage warehouse, full of unsorted stock: root around for long enough and you might found the odd jacket which only has a little light charring.

The messages remain unedited. Various contributions to a single thread are separated by three dots; messages from other contributors are not included, nor are there explanatory notes, though the context is usually clear. I hope there is enough here to be of some interest to comedy enthusiasts but at least no one can say the contents of this site have been misrepresented.

I have cowritten Funny Bones, the autobiography of British comedian and actor Freddie "Parrotface" Davies, which was published in 2014, on the 50th anniversary of his appearance on TV talent show Opportunity Knocks. A website promoting this book can be found here.

My other blog, Pismotality, can be found here. It concentrates on music - mostly but not exclusively doo wop - but there is a fair amount of comedy too, musical and otherwise, with extensive entries about Morecambe and Wise, Myles and Rudge, Jake Thackray, Alan Klein (What a Crazy World) as well as stories about The Sitcom That Never Was, costarring an ex-Beatle, and an untransmitted sitcom pilot.
